Bertha Mae Ellen Hodkins, 87, died at 3:30 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017, at the Maples Nursing Home in Springdale. She was born September 13, 1929, in Appleton City, Missouri to Jesse and Silvia (Rash) Stewart. On June 21, 1959, she married Jimmie Hodkins in Kansas City. They lived in Missouri, the towns of Independence, Galena and Sibley, for the majority of their married life. Bertha was known for her nurturing attitude; she cared for family, friends, nature, and all God’s creatures with unwavering love.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; son William Stewart and Shelly, Springdale; daughter Phyllis Lerner and Mark, Springdale; seven grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Louisa Ethel Gilmore, Virginia Lee Vaughan, and William “Bud” Stewart. A private prayer service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Springdale with Rev. Kris Crawford officiating.
